Mariscos Chihuahua Fresh Fish Culichi

Every now and then I discover a place with a dish so good that I have to tell everyone I know: Go here. Get this. Ask no questions.

I was never the biggest fan of ceviche – though I am now – and I avoided Mariscos Chihuahua for years until a friend insisted we go there for lunch. He also insisted I get the Fresh Fish Culichi, which isn’t ceviche, but a poached white fish smothered in a creamy green chile sauce topped with shredded and melted white cheese.

With every bite I collapsed further into the rich, silky flavor, frantically attempting to get every last drip of sauce and rice into my mouth. I’ve been back countless times and although I’ve ordered other items, I always come back to the Culichi. It’s always as good as the first time, although it never seems exactly the same. Tucson destination material for sure.

Other standout menu items:

  • Shrimp Culichi (picutured above)
  • Fried Whole Fish / Pescado Entero Mojarra
  • Filete Al Mojo de Ajo (fish with garlic)

Their chips and salsa are also excellent, the service is super friendly, (probably even better if you speak Spanish) and the ambience is a fun, baja theme.

Seriously – Go here. Get the Fresh Fish Culichi. Ask no questions.

Mariscos Chihuahua has eight locations in Tucson. Check out their Grande location at 1009 N. Grande Avenue, Tucson, Arizona 85745.
