Mark Whittaker

Mark Whittaker began his journalism career in San Francisco around 1997. It was for a small Northern California music magazine that segued into contributing to numerous magazines, websites, newspapers and weeklies throughout the 90’s and early 2000’s. Mark interviewed bands, reviewed albums, covered live shows, music and media events eventually leading him to a brief stint as a club and radio DJ. In December of 2005 he met his eventual wife and blindly moved to Tucson in February of 2006.

After eating a Sonoran hot dog, Mark immediately switched from music journalism to food. The southern Arizona culinary scene inspired Mark so much that he created a food focused blog, The Tucson Homeskillet, in 2010. That blog helped him land the job as the food writer for the Tucson Weekly in 2015.

When Covid hit, his position at the Weekly came to an end and for nearly two years Mark did very little writing…that is until an email from the new owner of Tucson Foodie arrived asking if he was interested in contributing.
Mark knew it was time to get back to work and said yes. Mark Whittaker is the food truck / bar / bar food / diner / funky pop-up correspondent for Tucson Foodie and couldn’t be happier about it.
