On Friday, February 9, The Century Room is kicking off its second-anniversary celebration at 311 E. Congress St. â located there on the east corner of Hotel Congress.
âOur house band that night will include âthe usual suspectsâ AKA the University of Arizona Jazz Faculty AKA Angelo Versace, Scott Black, Brice Winston, Jason Carder, and myself,â said Arthur Vint, Artistic Director at The Century Room. âBut, expect some special guests. And on February 9, all proceeds from ticket sales will go towards the Century Room piano fund!â
Since The Century Room first opened in 2022, the staff has loaned various pianos from the Tucson Jazz Festival, Daniel Ley Piano, Hachenburg Piano, and the Tucson Jazz Institute, but the time has come to finally purchase their very own piano.
âWith the price of a professional instrument costing more than a Tesla Cybertruck, the Century Room is partnering with the Tucson Jazz Music Foundation (TJMF) to raise enough funds to purchase a concert grand piano,â Vint added. âThe TJMF is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to facilitating a musical learning environment for Tucsonâs youth and with their support the Century Room will be able to expand our educational outreach, including masterclasses for students and providing free concert tickets to aspiring musicians. All donations to the TJMF for the Century Room piano will be tax deductible!â
Tickets range from $20 to $30 per person.
Also, theyâre testing out its new ticketing system, so theyâll have separate events for both 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. shows. The plan is to alleviate the confusion about concert start times and ticket types.
