Dominick’s Real Italian Celebrates 10 Years With New Dishes & Wine Specials

Aug 2, 20233 min read

If you’re living on the northwest side of town, and then also craving some Italian goodness, look no further than the delightful Dominick’s Real Italian. Actually, it doesn’t matter which side of town you call home, the restaurant is a treasure trove of traditional Italian cuisine.

Throughout the entire month of August, the family-owned and operated restaurant will have featured items on the menu, $10 bottles of select wine, and live entertainment every Friday and Saturday evening.

This northwest Italian restaurant, located at 8330 N. Thornydale Rd., is known for making dishes in a traditional and classic way by incorporating family recipes and using quality ingredients. Appetizers include fried ravioli and steamed mussels, and the pasta on hand is as simple as spaghetti with meatballs to Dominick’s Scampi, which tosses both chicken, shrimp, and veggies in the house’s special scampi sauce.

They have two kinds of risotto on the menu and there’s a nice gathering to choose from on the Monthly Specials menu. However, for Dominick’s 10-year anniversary, the August featured menu is “the star of the show.”

“This menu is a nod to an East Coast summer,” said Bryan Benton, head chef at Dominick’s Real Italian.

10-year Anniversary Specials

The menu starts off with a classic Italian wedding soup made in-house. The featured salad is the Mmm…Bacon Salad. This leafy mix is colorfully plated with spinach, mushrooms, sliced red onion, bacon bits, tomato, croutons, and gorgonzola cheese, which is all tossed with a housemade champagne bacon vinaigrette.

The salad is available in two sizes: a small for $6 or as an entrée for $12.

The main features are the show-stopping Chicken Lobster Piccata with parmesan Risotto and the deliciously unique Oyster Rockefeller Pizza garnished with lemon.

The Chicken Lobster Piccata available throughout the month of August is an upgraded twist served with a side of their housemade parmesan risotto. This 10-year anniversary feast is available for $34.50.

The Oyster Rockefeller Pizza is a sight to be seen and almost too pretty to eat. But, like all things, they have a purpose and this pizza is meant to be eaten. The hand-stretched dough with a garlic butter spread is topped with wild-caught oysters, parmesan, bacon, spinach, mozzarella, and panko bread crumbs.

It’s then finished off with freshly-squeezed lemon and comes in two sizes — a 12-inch pie for $20 and a 16-inch for $30.

Then, to end the meal on the sweeter side, be sure to order Dominick’s housemade Ghirardelli Tuxedo White Chocolate Cheesecake swirled with Ghirardelli chocolate on an Oreo crust. This edible masterpiece is $9 a slice and will send you home with a smile.

The restaurant is currently open from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Sunday – Thursday and 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. on Friday – Saturday.

More about Matt

At a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.

He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.

If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
