Tucson’s Kon Tiki To Host Huge 50th Anniversary Celebration

Tucson’s Kon Tiki To Host Huge 50th Anniversary Celebration

Mar 18, 20141 min read

If you’ve never been to Kon Tiki, for one, I’d find that hard to believe. Two, you need to get your ass over there.

According to their website, Kon Tiki is:

One of the last remaining, operational tiki temples from American’s mid-century tiki past. The interior is almost completely original from the opening day – including the largest collection of Milan Guanko tikis in the world.

It really is a cool place. And, they’ve been around for fifty years. Fifty. That’s a long time to be in business in Tucson. To celebrate, Kon Tiki is hosting a big party on Saturday, April 5th, 2014 with live music, a special 1963 menu, all kinds of merchandise, vendors, and more.

Here’s their promotional video…

Look for performances by The Love Me Nots, Flam Chen, Shrimp Chaperone, The Jonestown Band, and The Modeens.

Pertinent Info:

  • Tickets: $15 in advance, $18 day of
  • Ticket plus mug: $90 (Limited)
  • VIP Tickets: $160 (Includes 2 tix, mug, shirt, poster, Mai Tai glass, and pint glass

And, they’ve partnered with the Viscount Suites, which is approximately 2,375 tiki mugs away from Kon Tiki.

For more information check out their Facebook event page or their event page on the Kon Tiki website.

After 4pm, @Talegacoffee at 177 N. Church Ave. transforms into @_Velvetcowboy, serving cocktails, tapas, and late-night bar energy. Velvet Cowboy’s grand opening is Oct. 16, with upcoming events including drag brunches, DJs, and live music.🪩

This weekend’s hours are Saturday from 2pm to midnight and Sunday from noon to 10pm. Featured in this video is the Chilte(penis) martini special, made with chiltepin vodka, agua de chiltepin, and pickle juice, available until they sell out.🍸

“Opening this place feels a little surreal. To now have a space where we can bring together coffee, food, art, booze, and all the weird things we love feels like a reflection of how far we’ve come.” —Tyler Melo
