Stamp Out Hunger: How to Donate & Volunteer at the Biggest Food Drive of the Year

May 9, 2024
By Matt Sterner

The big event kicks off Saturday, May 11.

The annual Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is the largest food drive of the year for the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.

The food drive returns on Saturday, May 11, and folks are invited to fill a bag with non-perishable food items and leave the bag by their mailbox. Letter carriers will then pick up the donations in a daylong effort.

“Letter carriers are our heroes of the day,” says Malea Chavez, CEO of the Community Food Bank. “We can’t thank them enough for this massive effort to bring in food, and just in time for the challenging summer months.”

The Community Food Bank hopes to collect 250,000 pounds of food to build up its food supply before the summer months.

Demand for emergency food has increased, in some cases setting records for the amount of people picking up emergency food. Stamp Out Hunger relies on letter carriers to pick up food donations on their regular mail delivery routes.

Volunteers are needed to help sort food at specific local post offices!

Anyone interested can sign up to help at the Mission, Mountain View, and Casas Adobes stations. Last year 210,000 pounds of food was collected in Southern Arizona in the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.
