“There were many reasons that contributed to this,” said Raphael De La Cuesta, owner of Fatboy Sandos. “Navigating a restaurant these days is so hard on its own — along with so many other factors.”
On Monday, February 10, the Fatboy Sandos crew shared the news that the restaurant has permanently closed.
Fatboy Sandos began as a food truck in 2022, often parking in front of a former office supplies business at the corner of Broadway Boulevard and Euclid Avenue. In just three years, the business blossomed — expanding beyond the food truck and into more than one brick-and-mortar location.
To clarify, we confirmed that the following announcement means that both locations have closed: the Park Place Mall‘s food court location (5870 E. Broadway Blvd.) and the out-of-town location in Mesa (1920 W. Broadway Rd #103).
“It’s with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to close Fatboy Sandos. There were many reasons that forced us to come to this very tough decision. We are so grateful for all of the support and love we have received throughout this amazing experience. To our staff. We love and appreciate you and your hard work that made us what we are — something so amazing that perfectly added to the diverse and unmatchable Arizona food scene.”
All in all, the Fatboy Sandos team learned a lot in such a short amount of time, and they’re already looking forward to the “next chapter.”
“We are still super excited for what’s next for us,” De La Cuesta added. “We definitely aren’t done.”
