Barrio Tailgate Party with the Tucson Roadrunners (April 5)

The Tucson Roadrunners are known for throwing some rip-roarin’ parties before hockey matches. We’ve seen Whiskey & Wings, Tacos & Tequila Night, and Hockey & Hops outside the Tucson Convention Center

Now, the Roadrunners are putting a “fresh new twist” on Hockey & Hops. Introducing the Barrio Tailgate Party — “your new favorite pre-game event!”

On Saturday, April 5, the rebranded event begins at 5 p.m. It’s similar to the former Hockey & Hops events but they’ll be exclusively featuring Barrio Brewing’s beers.

Tickets are $60 per person in advance, which can be purchased online, and then $65 each the day of (tickets are limited).

Your ticket gets you:

A Tucson Roadrunners commemorative five-ounce drinking glass
Eight drink tickets for some of Barrio’s best beers (Blonde, Rojo, Mexican Lager, and more)
A Roadrunners hat to rep your team
Admission to the game
Games, music, and great vibes all around

Also — as an added bonus — they’ll be selling Barrio Brewing products for just $5 and a 10% off voucher to be used during your next visit to the taproom.

Plus, Saturday, April 5 is Country Night! The first 1,000 fans get a nifty Tucson Roadrunners Cowboy hat.

At a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.

He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
