Foods not only express our own cultural identity, but also, our interconnectedness with other cultures, communities, and their histories. To launch the celebration of Asian Pacific American (APA) Heritage Month in April, we are highlighting the Chinese Chorizo as a “Recipe for Solidarity” in this series of events that brings the @chinesechorizoproject to the University of Arizona starting March 28th. Two campus cultural centers @uaapasa & the @ua_guerrero , join forces with the founder of the Chinese Chorizo Project, Feng Feng Yeh, and the @uazunions , to host a Zongzi (a wrapped Chinese sticky rice dumpling) cooking demo on March 28th from 2-4pm at the Culinary Studio at the Student Union Memorial Center. Then a “Recipe for Solidarity” open-mic & APA Faculty Network will be open to the public, where Chinese Chorizo “Solidarity Specials” (TBA) will be featured at Cork and Craft starting March 28th from 4:30-7pm for the month of April or until sold out.

The Chinese Chorizo Project is a statewide Arizona festival and cultural art project commemorating the Chinese Chorizo, a lost historic symbol of Chinese-Mexican immigrant solidarity in Tucson during the 1880s-1960s.

To take part in our cooking demo and open mic, we are asking students, faculty, and staff participants to build awareness and spark creativity around the concept of solidarity to speak and submit a “recipe for solidarity” that may make it into a zine “cookbook” by filling out the registration in the QR code or link.

What is a dish, an enigmatic ingredient, a food story, or memorable meal that represents the concept of solidarity to you? Or, going beyond food—what would you say are the “ingredients” and “directions” for creating, serving, sharing, and experiencing collective resistance, survival, liberation and love? Share your stories, POEMS, AND SONGS with us! Please complete this registration form by March 22nd to take part in the cooking demo and/or the open mic! And join us for the Chinese Chorizo Solidarity Specials for APA Heritage Month at Cork and Craft!
