Play ball!

Take a swing at The Dugout Sports Bar and Grill — the sports bar known for its batting cages and family-friendly fun. The restaurant and bar at 4880 E. 22nd St. has a pitch for every catcher — a local spot where all sports enthusiasts, families, and foodies can get along.

“Me and my husband have been coming here since we were kids,” said Kristina Koblinsky, co-owner and general manager of The Dugout. “It’s basically a family fun center.”

In addition to batting cages for all skill levels, they also provide arcade games, pool, and darts.

Rebranding

Formerly named Home Plate, The Dugout has been a part of the Tucson community since the ‘70s. Koblinsky, a Tucson native, is a member of the ownership group that took over and changed the name in June of 2023. She knew how important it would be to maintain the qualities that people enjoyed most.

“They know the name changed but it is still the same cool sports bar with batting cages,” said Koblinsky.

The Dugout, under its new name, has also already impacted the local sports community. A local adult softball team, the Dugout Brewjays, which completed their inaugural season last year, is sponsored by The Dugout — they provided them with jerseys.

What’s on the Menu?

Open from 10 a.m. – 2 a.m. seven days a week, The Dugout serves classic bar fare such as wings, burgers, and pizza.

The Dugout’s menu also has shareables like Deep-Fried Zucchini and Onion Rings — get ‘em individually or as a combo! The Jalapeño Poppers ought to get you fired up, too, if you’re planning on swinging in the batting cages.

The Dugout plates up sandwiches served on a hoagie roll. The Dimaggio, named after the three-time MVP, Joe Dimaggio, is a sandwich with ham, salami, pepperoni, Italian provolone, lettuce, tomato, and onion.  While the Base on Balls is The Dugout’s meatball sandwich with mozzarella and marinara.

The Dugout also offers daily food specials!

Some of their weekly deals include Taco Tuesday, Wing Wednesday, and Fish Fry Friday. On Wing Wednesdays, customers can get a dozen wings for just $13.

On the Horizon

The baseball season may be underway but The Dugout is still making improvements to its events roster. Koblinsky said the Dugout will soon host “Galaxy nights,” where there will be glow-in-the-dark batting cage experiences every other Saturday.
