BOCA Tacos Y Tequila will serve its last taco at its current location, the former Greasy Tony’s at 828 E. Speedway Blvd., on May 31.

The current location was sold, but plans for the space haven’t been revealed yet.

“We knew it was going to happen since the U of A has been expanding,” said owner and chef Maria Mazon. “I don’t know if the space is going to be used for a parking lot or something else.”

Taco fans need not fear, however — BOCA will have a new home the very next day on June 1. Also the new space will incorporate two of Mazon’s developing concepts. Where the mixed concept will end up being, at this time is unknown, Mazon is currently in talks to finalize.

“There are two potential places,” Mazon said. “I can’t say yet because I haven’t closed on it, though I would be part owner.”

Although the expansion is needed to accommodate the growing customer base, the departure is bittersweet for Mazon.

“I have an attachment to this place like you wouldn’t believe,” Mazon said. “I’m going to cry, watching from across the street with a beer. But the new spot is going to be bigger and better.”

Mazon remained tight-lipped about any hints, but assured that BOCA is doing well.

“The support has been incredible,” Mazon said. “We will continue to feed our customers great tacos, just at a different address.”
