The Tucson community flourished while showing an outpour of love for André Newman of Purple Tree Organic Acai Blends, who recently passed away.

With permission from Newman’s family, Black Lives Matter Tucson put together a fundraiser on GoFundMe that’ll go towards legal fees, therapy, housing bills, living expenses, and other “end-of-life costs.”

Newman was said to be known as a vibrant life force in the community. Many Tucsonans may have seen him inside the Purple Tree food truck at Tumamoc Hill, on Arizona Heritage Tours, or at one of his live performances.

The fundraiser is now closed due to the amount of money that’s already been raised.

With that being said, half of the money raised beyond the initial goal of $20,000 will be put towards his daughter’s college fund. At last check, the goal has been surpassed by quite a bit — $43,450.
