By popular request, Tucson Foodie has started a series of vegan meals on Mondays. Look out for our meat-free meal every so often on Monday.
It’s a brand new week, the sun is scorching the city, and it’s possible you’ve got an unfamiliar craving making a scene deep down in your grumblin’ tummy.
If you’re looking for a meatless treasure, Cup Café inside Hotel Congress has a Fried Tofu Sandwich making itself known on the menu.
Earlier this year, Brian Smith, who is the executive chef over at the temporarily closed Maynards Kitchen, has joined the team at Cup Café. With his arrival, he introduced the Fried Tofu Sandwich — topped with cabbage slaw, pickles, secret sauce, and served on a potato bun.
“I’ve had Southern fried tofu in the past and have always loved the similarities between it and fried chicken when done correctly,” said Smith. “The Cup menu was really needing a vegan sandwich, and this felt fun and approachable. The sandwich is meant to resemble a classic spicy fried chicken sandwich.”
You can get the sandwich all day long, too, so feel free to order it for breakfast.
Cup Café is located inside Hotel Congress at 311 E. Congress Street. For more info, call (520) 622-8848 or visit hotelcongress.com.
