If you’ve got a margarita recipe that’s been knockin’ the socks off of people there’s a chance it can become part of history with this unique opportunity.
In honor of El Charro Café’s 100th anniversary in 2022, Si Charro! is hosting a “Margarita of the Century” contest from now until early next year.

Here’s how the contest works:
All recipe submissions will be vetted by Si Charro bar staff and an independent judging panel to select the top three entries, which will be announced in the spring.
After that, the public will then get a chance to vote for their favorites in tasting flights offered at Si Charro restaurants around Tucson. The final winner will receive a special prize, and their creation will take its rightful place of honor as a permanent selection on all Si Charro menus.
You can submit your recipe now at charro100.com.
A special collaboration between two celebrated entities
Cazadores Tequila is also celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2022.
Earlier this month, Si Charro’s Margarita of the Century competition got off to an exciting start at El Charro in downtown Tucson, which was made up of an intimate gathering of friends and fans.

The event was hosted by celebrity mixologist and Cazadores Tequila’s Global Ambassador, Manny Hinojosa. The gathering featured a preview of “century-inspired appetizers” created by Si Charro owner and Executive Chef Carlotta Flores and Hinojosa’s perfectly paired tequila drinks with each course.
The duo will play an integral part in the Margarita of the Century contest with special events and menus planned over the next 14 months. The dates and event details are still in the works, so keep an eye out for those.
“The community has been so supportive of our family restaurants for almost a century — this celebration is dedicated to them,” said Flores Concepts President, Ray Flores.

Celebrating for a good cause
On top of all of the festivities, the Si Charro! family of restaurants will roll out the “Cerveza, Tamale, and Chimichanga of the Century” as part of the commemorative activities surrounding its100th Anniversary. The Flores Family has designated Hope Matters Breast Cancer Foundation as one of the beneficiaries of select events for the 100th anniversary.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
