When it comes to anniversaries, they’re a joy to celebrate. It’s either because you’re honoring an incredible feat that’s near and dear to your own heart or to the hearts of many others — or both.
Since last year, El Charro Café has been prepping for its 100th Anniversary and has since been honoring its century of achievements. Now, the restaurant and Dragoon Brewing Company are excited to finally tap into their kegs of Cerveza of the Century, which is a Sonoran Amber collaboration brew.
Chef and owner Carlotta Flores is very aware that her tia Monica Flin, who started El Charro Café 100 years ago, would be the first to get her hands on this new beer.
“She would love to see us celebrating her little café and a century of food made with the love she added to everything,” said Flores.
Right now, the Cerveza of the Century, which was made using Centennial Hops and mesquite-smoked malt, is on tap at all El Charro Cafe restaurants. Dragoon Brewing’s head brewer, Eric Green, is thrilled with both the outcome of the beer and for being a part of the 100-year celebration.
“Our Sonoran Amber is approachable and drinks pretty easy but packs a punch (it weighs in at 7% ABV),” said Green. “It leans towards the malty side, with hints of brown sugar, caramel, and dried fruit on the nose, all balanced by roasted malt, a touch of smoke, and bright Centennial hops. I particularly love it with charro beans and a quesadilla.”
The new brew is just one of the many honorary happenings goin’ on this year at El Charro. Si Charro CEO Ray Flores has planned a full roster of exciting plans like the Margarita of the Century Challenge, special dinners, tasting events, and plenty of others. Keep an eye out for those.
