They're staying open until the supplies run out

It’s always a bummer to see local restaurants and businesses close up shop, especially so for a restaurant that’s been open for nearly half a century.

Sullivan’s Eatery & Creamery, which opened 45 years ago on the northwest side, is officially closing its doors at 6444 N. Oracle Rd. The restaurant was originally a Swensen’s and opened up back in 1977.

The current owner, Alex Mustaffa, has been operating the business since 2017 and recently announced that he’ll be closing in mid-June. More specifically and most recently, the crew at the restaurant is telling folks they will be making the closure official as soon as Friday, June 10 or Saturday, June 11.

So, fans of the restaurant near the corner of Oracle and Orange Grove Road have until the earlier parts of this weekend to have one last meal and a cold scoop of ice cream.

Heads up, though, because the closing could happen much sooner depending on whether or not the remaining supplies last that long.

One of the reasons for the closure, according to Mustaffa, is the certain business model in the current times. For example, the restaurant, which is a family-friendly restaurant that doesn’t serve alcohol, had steadier foot traffic before the pandemic threw a wrench into the day-to-day workflow.

Sullivan’s Eatery & Creamery is located at 6444 N. Oracle Rd. For more information, call (520) 297-9974 or visit sullivanseateryandcreamery.com.
