NOW OPEN: Tesoro Latin Kitchen & Cantina on Oracle Road

October 27, 2023
By Matt Sterner

If you’ve lived in Tucson for a while, chances are you’ve either eaten at or at least driven by the national chain Mimi’s Cafe near the Tucson Mall. Just a couple of years ago, some were saddened that the restaurant closed, leaving a lot of folks wondering what the vacant building would become.

The wait is over because a little over two weeks ago, Tesoro Latin Kitchen & Cantina officially opened to the public at 4420 N. Oracle Rd.

The team behind Tesoro Latin Kitchen serves “classic Latin dishes with a modern twist” with craft cocktails and pitchers of fresh fruit margaritas and mojitos.

Street Elote, deep-fried pork belly, shrimp ceviche, and nachos are just a few of the appetizers on the menu while birria enchiladas, a la carte tacos, tortas, a Shrimp Burger — topped with bacon, cream cheese, lettuce, and an onion ring — stand out on the rest of the menu.

Flan, lava cake, churros, and a dessert called a Burro Cheesecake (deep-fried vanilla ice cream with a fruit sauce) are available for a post-dinner delight.

“Late night, we dance! Be ready for high-energy salsa, merengue, samba, and reggaeton accompanied by ice-cold beer and beautifully crafted cocktails.” the Tesoro crew shared online. “Bienvenidos a Tesoro!”

The restaurant is currently open from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. on Sunday – Thursday and 11 a.m. – 1 a.m. on Friday – Saturday (kitchen closes at 10 p.m.).
