Casa Asada Taquería is Now Open on Campbell Avenue

Campbell Avenue continues to grow with flavors from all over the globe.

Next up: Casa Asada Taquería at 2502 N. Campbell Ave., which is the spot that formerly housed Goodness. With a focus on traditions out of Mexico, the team behind the build debuted the new concept this past weekend.

“It’s like a traditional taqueria out of Hermosillo,” said Daniel Thomas of Blueprint Restaurant Concepts. “We’re not going to be doing lengua or anything like that — we’re keeping it very simplistic. We’re using prime beef for our carne asada tacos and the al pastor is straight off the trompo.”

Casa Asada has more than one bar, too. One is designated for their housemade salsas and another is there to lift your spirits.

“We have a full bar,” Thomas added. “Beer, cocktails, and wine. The cocktails will be influenced by the content so there’s going to be a lot of mezcal!”Therefore, be sure to add this place to your list of “where to find margaritas in Tucson” and other tequila and mezcal-driven concoctions.

The restaurant also has table service as opposed to walking up to the counter to order.

“It’ll be a relaxed service,” said Thomas. “If you go to any taco shop, taqueria, restaurant, or anything in Hermosillo, the hospitality is incredible. They’re so attentive! We’re really going to try to drive home principles from those taco shops and smaller restaurants.”

The new restaurant is open daily from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.

At a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.

He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
