Tucson Museum of Art “Dinner à l’art” Series Features 14 Private Dinner Parties

Jan 5, 20162 min read

The Tucson Museum of Art’s annual Dinner à l’art fundraiser, a series of exclusive dinner parties, is back with 14 events from February through April 2016.

For $150 per dinner – payable as a donation to the museum – you can attempt to reserve a spot at as many of the parties as you wish. Of course, you’ll only end up dining at one of the events. Each host develops a signature theme, menu and location, from the hosts’ homes throughout town to the Tucson Botanical Gardens.

This year’s themes range from “Tastes of the Iberian Peninsula”, a Spanish and Portuguese feast, to “ICE: a fragile force”, a menu inspired by artist Patricia Carr Morgan’s latest series about recent travels to Antarctica and Greenland.

Numerous local chefs and restaurants are involved with the dinners, including Nook’s Nikki and Matthew Thompson, Mountain Oyster Club, Dakota Café, Kristine Jensen of Gallery of Food and Janos Wilder. Each dinner accommodates anywhere from 12 to 25 guests.

“Our hosts go to considerable expense and many hours of work to open their homes to Museum supporters to help raise funds for operating costs,” said Linda Schindler, Tucson Museum of Art League Member and Chair of Dinner à l’art 2016. “For guests at this fundraiser, it is an opportunity to enjoy a unique evening with other Museum supporters, to meet new people, with the added benefit of knowing that they are also contributing to the Museum. It is a good-will event all around, that supports the crucial everyday operations.”

Reservation requests and checks are due to the Tucson Museum of Art by January 11, 2016 to be included in the first round of confirmations. A random drawing is used to match preferences. Reservation requests are welcomed through April for any remaining dinner reservations.

@Jundynasty has served Sichuan dishes on Grant Road for 13 years.🌶️

General manager Jacob Yeung credits one idea above all: “We’ve grown since then, but the key has always been consistency.”

Stop in for Flaming Chili Oil, Walnut Shrimp, chow fun, or sautéed green beans finished with Sichuan peppercorns. Vegetarian and vegan options are available.

Customers can stop in between now and Saturday for one last meal. The team plans to sell down its inventory, though it hopes to have favorite dishes available. Regular hours remain 9am-3pm through the final day.

“Running this kitchen has been a labor of love, but the numbers just aren’t adding up anymore, and as parents, we have to make the hard choice to step back and take care of what matters most at home.”
