To celebrate the “taste of summer,” Heirloom Farmers Markets is hosting the Tomato Basil Festival on Saturday, July 23, and Sunday, July 24.
Saturday’s event will be held at the Oro Valley Farmers Market at Steam Pump Ranch, followed by the “large fiesta” on Sunday at the Rillito Park Farmers Market at the Food Pavilion.
The Tomato Basil Festival will feature heirloom tomatoes, tomato jams, roasted tomatoes, basil pasta, lasagna, artisan breads, chilled gazpacho, and basil infused soaps. Bundles of basil and basil drenched olive oil will also be available.
The farmers market will also offer a Food Demonstration Booth, featuring tomato and basil samples.
Tomatoes and basil will be available from several farmers, including Markley Farms, Larry’s Veggies, Backyard Gardening and Growing, High Energy Agriculture, La Oesta Gardens, Southwinds Farms, Sleeping Frog Farms, Grammy’s Garden, and Richcrest Farms.
Live music will also be featured at both events, with Michael P. Nordberg on Saturday, and Woke Up Dead on Sunday.
The festival will be held from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tomato tastings begin at 9 a.m.
