Jul 11, 20151 min read

Maynards Market is hosting its 2nd annual Ice Cream Showdown competition.

The challenge takes place Saturday, July 11 from 6pm-8pm and includes 20 unique and original flavors.

Each creamery has creative freedom, but will provide both a kid-friendly and adult-friendly option (this means alcohol may be included ladies and gentlemen).

The creameries will be battling over the following titles: Best Overall, Most Inventive, and Kid’s Choice.

Participating ice cream vendors include:

  • Gentle Bens Restaurant
  • The Screamery
  • Hub Ice Cream Factory
  • Cup Café
  • Isabella’s Ice Cream
  • Brushfire Ice Creamery
  • Sullivan’s Eatery and Creamery
  • Cashew Cow
  • Melt Gelato
  • Maynards Kitchen

Tickets are $10 and can be bought at the door or online in advance with proceeds going to Ben’s Bells.

Maynards will also be hosting a second event that evening. Sear N’ Shine will feature Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine and Carolina style barbecue prepared by Chef Anthony Coluci.

Fingerlickin’ bites include pulled pork sandwiches with pepper slaw and pickled onions, baby back pork ribs, fried pickle chips, slow roasted mustard-brined sweet barbecue chicken, collard greens and smoked sausage with cornbread dressing.

Sear n’ Shine Tickets are $30 and $15 for just the Sear, and can be purchased online or at the door. Vegetarian options are available upon request.

Stop in for Flaming Chili Oil, Walnut Shrimp, chow fun, or sautéed green beans finished with Sichuan peppercorns. Vegetarian and vegan options are available.

@Lovinspoonfulstucson is closing after more than 20 years in Tucson. Its final day of service runs on Saturday, Oct. 24.

Customers can stop in between now and Saturday for one last meal. The team plans to sell down its inventory, though it hopes to have favorite dishes available. Regular hours remain 9am-3pm through the final day.

“Running this kitchen has been a labor of love, but the numbers just aren’t adding up anymore, and as parents, we have to make the hard choice to step back and take care of what matters most at home.”
