Mexico In Season Launches Kickstarter Campaign to Stay Open

Mexico In Season Launches Kickstarter Campaign to Stay Open

Feb 3, 20152 min read

It’s not often that the words “Mexican” and “healthy” are uttered in the same sentence. Mexico in Season, unfortunately located in an off-the-beaten-path location at 3820 S. Palo Verde, offers Mexican favorites in unique vegan and vegetarian options with plenty of healthy fare for carnivores, too (see Red Chile Beef).

With an assembly-line set up, similar to what you would find at any fast casual joint, such as Chipotle or Fired Pie, and reasonable prices, the restaurant has found an unfulfilled niche in Tucson.

But, Mexico in Season has hit a hitch. A year after opening their South Tucson location, they’ve lost their main partner and are now at risk of closing. To keep running their restaurant and fulfilling the dreams of Mexican food loving vegans all over Tucson, the family has started a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds.

You may remember a post from a few weeks ago on the 12 Best Vegan Dishes to Try in Tucson. Mexico in Season was featured for the Larga with Sweet Potato Stir Fry, Nopalitos (stir-fried cactus) and Verdolagas (Mexican parsley).

A few other favorites from the family owned restaurant include the Vegan Larga con Calabasas, Seitan Fajitas, and anything Red Chile, like the Beef Torta or Sweet Potatoes.

Natural drinks like Oatchata (oats, organic soymilk), San Pepinada (watermelon, cucumber and lime), ManPepiNada (watermelon, cucumber, lime) and Jamaica (hibiscus tea) are made from scratch in-house.

With the money raised from the Kickstarter campaign, Mexico In Season hopes to get up to date with operating expenses and invest in advertising and a food truck to not only stay in business but bring their healthy creations to the rest of Tucson.

There are more perks to donating:

  • Pledge $1 or more: Your name on the “Thanks for helping” wall (applies to all pledges)
  • Pledge $10 or more: Free lunch
  • Pledge $20 or more: A free meal for two
  • Pledge $50 or more: A free meal for you and seven of your friends
  • Pledge $100 or more: A free meal for you and sixteen of your friends (that’s less than $6 per person. Just saying.)

Visit Mexico In Season’s Kickstarter page to donate and find out more information.

Opened in 2023, @kabulcorner is Tucson’s only Afghan restaurant, created to provide jobs, community, and a taste of home for Afghan families who made Tucson their new home.

Today, Sediq Haidari and his family serve traditional Afghan dishes like bolani, mantou, Kabuli palaw, fresh tandoori naan, and house-made chaka, while preserving recipes and traditions rooted in Afghanistan’s rich history.

With its warm hospitality, authentic food, and strong sense of community, Kabul Corner has become a little piece of home in the Sonoran Desert. ❤️

“These dishes are famous not only in Afghanistan, but in neighboring countries like Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Iran, and even parts of China. It sits right between Indian and Arabic food.” Sediq Haidari
