National Donut Day 2023: Sweet (And Local) Deals In Tucson

Jun 1, 20232 min read

Aside from Valentine’s Day, Halloween, and other holidays involving giant bags of candy, National Donut Day is one of the sweetest days of the year.

So, how do you spell it? Doughnut or donut? Popular doughnut purveyors like Dunkin’ have made “donut” a lot more common over the years, but hey, we’re talking about locally-owned and operated doughnut shops here.

I’m stickin’ with “doughnuts” from this point forward. So, keep on scrolling for one-day, local deals on Friday, June 2.

1912 Brewing Company

2045 N. Forbes Blvd. #105

The brewery is offering a beer and doughnut pairing for the holiday. The lineup will include three doughnuts and three six-ounce beers. It’s first come, first serve.

For more information, follow 1912 Brewing on Facebook.

Amy’s Donuts

The doughnut shop will be handing out free cake holes (while supplies last).

Borderlands Brewing Company

Cal’s Bakeshop

Multiple Locations

Throughout the day, Cal’s Bakeshop’s partnerships will be offering free doughnuts to the first 12 customers who stop by and buy coffee from Cuppa Go Go, Tucson Coffee Cricket, Red Captain Coffee, Green Desert Coffee, Barista Del Barrio, and Essential Coffee Cart.

Then, later on in the day at 4 p.m., Tucson Hop Shop will be giving away mini doughnuts.

More about Matt

At a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.

He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.

If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
