Nightjar’s new late-late menu and Friday movie nights

May 27, 20222 min read

This is the Tucson experience you’re looking for.

Starting Friday, May 27 (tonight!), Nightjar is showing movies on the patio starting at 10 p.m. The lineup is exactly what you’d expect from owners Sally Kane and Gregor Kretschmann — a carefully curated list of eclectic films you probably haven’t seen, but must if you consider yourself a human being capable of experiencing joy.

Do yourself a favor and go to their website right now and click on each movie to read the hilarious descriptions Gregor personally wrote about every film.

Here’s the schedule:
  • Friday, May 27 – The Triplets of Belleville (2003)
  • Friday, June 3 – Kung Fu Hustle (2004)
  • Friday, June 10 – To Have and Have Not (1944)
  • Friday, June 17 – L.A. Story (1991)
  • Friday, July 15 – Holes (2003)
  • Friday, July 22 – D.O.A. (1949)
  • Friday, August 5 – Black Mask (1996)

Before digging into the food, we have to talk about this patio.

Stepping foot in the 160-year-old courtyard is worth the trip alone. Lush with happy palms and citrus, glowing with string lights, and cooled with misters, it’s an ambience photos can’t possibly do justice. Shared with the Meyer Avenue Cafe, this patio is also one of my favorite places to work in the mornings, with tons of shade, ample outlets, great WiFi, always a few dogs, and free coffee refills.

Okay — the food.

The Coronet’s late-night menu is available until close with favorites like the warm Rosemary Marcona Almonds, Pickled Deviled Eggs, Braised Rabbit Poutine, their universally-loved Butter LettuceWedge” salad, Guinness Meat Pie, and Tack Room Chocolate Mousse.

After that — and here’s where it gets really interesting for the hungry Tucsonan who knows how limited their food options become after 9 p.m. — Nightjar is now offering new late-late night specials:

As you can see, their famous Coronet Burger and fries are back on the menu (now available with Impossible meat), and the always famous tinned gourmet seafood and Thai mussels (+ add-on tiger shrimp) are also obtainable until close. Glasses of house wine are $6, craft beer is $1 off, and house spirits are $2 off.

And if you’re seeking full ego dissolution on movie night, $8 will get you a bag of [POPPED] Artisan Popcorn and a Modelo Especial.

A delicious burger and a cocktail after midnight in a setting that is somehow casual and magical at the same time? Expect to bump into food industry professionals and the Tucson Foodie team every Friday night this summer at Nightjar.

The Nightjar is located at 347 S. Meyer Ave. For more information on the menu and movie lineup, visit nightjartucson.com

After 4pm, @Talegacoffee at 177 N. Church Ave. transforms into @_Velvetcowboy, serving cocktails, tapas, and late-night bar energy. Velvet Cowboy’s grand opening is Oct. 16, with upcoming events including drag brunches, DJs, and live music.🪩

This weekend’s hours are Saturday from 2pm to midnight and Sunday from noon to 10pm. Featured in this video is the Chilte(penis) martini special, made with chiltepin vodka, agua de chiltepin, and pickle juice, available until they sell out.🍸

“Opening this place feels a little surreal. To now have a space where we can bring together coffee, food, art, booze, and all the weird things we love feels like a reflection of how far we’ve come.” —Tyler Melo
