Scottsdale’s Wasted Grain to Replace World of Beer Tucson

Oct 4, 20161 min read

Beer and burger concept Wasted Grain will replace the World of Beer locations in Tucson, according to the company’s website. The ownership group, Scottsdale-based Square One Concepts Inc., purchased the three World Of Beer franchises in Arizona last month, and has added the Tucson and Tempe locations to it’s company website and created a Facebook page for each location.

“We will be opening a Wasted Grain in Tucson mid October,” said Alecia Sanchez, Square One Concepts Director of Marketing and Events.

The original Wasted Grain location opened in Old Town Scottsdale and is billed as a hip place to watch live music and sporting events, similar to the World of Beer in Tucson, located at 350 E. Congress St. The cuisine is considered upscale American tavern fare, with hamburgers, flatbread pizzas, salads, nachos, and an assortment of appetizers.

The company will also continue the World of Beer theme with more than 50 draft beers.

According to a company’s Craigslist advertisement, Wasted Grain management recently conducted interviews for managers, servers, bartenders, cooks, and other restaurant positions.

Along with Wasted Grain, Square One Concepts owns Pacific Beach Shore Club, Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers, Crab & Mermaid, and Bourbon & Bones, with locations throughout the Tucson, Phoenix, and San Diego areas.

After an enormous local response in November 2013, the Tucson World of Beer fell on hard times as other craft beer bars and restaurants opened downtown and throughout Tucson. The food program, which was a new addition to the national World of Beer concept, struggled to keep up with demand during busy times while failing to draw in a daytime lunch crowd.

Customers can stop in between now and Saturday for one last meal. The team plans to sell down its inventory, though it hopes to have favorite dishes available. Regular hours remain 9am-3pm through the final day.

“Running this kitchen has been a labor of love, but the numbers just aren’t adding up anymore, and as parents, we have to make the hard choice to step back and take care of what matters most at home.”
