Tucson Craft Brewers Guild Members Collaborate on Altbier For A Cause

A special beer, the results of an Arizona Craft Brewers Guild member collaboration to benefit Tu Nidito, will be available October 18 at Baja Oktoberfest.

The group of Arizona Craft Brewers Guild members, which included Barrio Brewery, Dragoon, Thunder Canyon, Borderlands, Sentinel Peak, 1702, and 1055 Brewing Company gathered on September 17 at Dragoon Brewery to donate their time and ingredients as part of a partnership between the guild and Tu Nidito.

“As members of the local community, when we heard that Tu Nidito lost the support of El Tour de Tucson, we decided to mobilize the Baja Arizona Brewers and organize Baja Oktoberfest in support of Tu Nidito,” says Steve Stacy, owner and brewer of Thunder Canyon Brewery. “Proceeds from the festival will help make up a portion of that lost funding so that Tu Nidito can continue the great work they do for children in our community.”

The beer, named Alt Pueblo, will be unveiled and available on tap for sampling at Baja Oktoberfest, as well as at select local breweries and bars following the event. All proceeds from Alt Pueblo will benefit Tu Nidito.

Altbier is a German style brown ale. The term “alt” literally translates to “old” which alludes to an old style of brewing. “We chose an altbier because it is a German style beer and it’s in keeping with the spirit of Oktoberfest,” said Stacy.

Though Alt Pueblo is a first for the group coming together, it won’t be the last.

“The Southern Arizona brewers are a close-knit, friendly group,” said Stacy. “We organized as the Baja Arizona Brewers to promote local craft beer and support local charitable organizations like Tu Nidito. Alt Pueblo Ale is the first of many collaborations for our group.”
