The Iskashitaa Refugee Network is hosting a food preservation workshop at Saint Francis in the Foothills from 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Monday, December 11.

The group creates opportunities for UN refugees in the Southern Arizona community, educates the public, and strengthens the local food system.

Whether you’re a refugee or not, the workshop helps build confidence in the kitchen by practicing food safety and sanitation protocols, as well as kitchen and English language skills.

The preservation techniques include canning, drying, fermenting, and freezing.

You’ll also learn how to make prickly pear pickled garlic, date and citrus barbecue sauce, and a date syrup.

The workshops usually last about three hours, but you’re welcome stay longer or leave sooner if needed.

Saint Francis in the Foothills is located at 4625 E. River Rd. For more information, visit the Iskashitaa Refugee Network‘s Facebook Event Page.
