Online Editor & Headline Writer Job Description
The Online Editor & Headline Writer is the last stop before Tucson Foodie content hits the public interwebs. The position requires strong writing and editing skills and a strong grasp of social media. Finally, as the last eyes before publishing, the Online Editor should have a sense of what kind of imagery will resonate best with our audience and grab people’s attention. The right candidate will feel comfortable in making the call regarding an image if it needs to be pulled or switched out.
Primary Duties
- Proofread and edit all articles for general flow, spelling, punctuation, and grammar
- Format articles based on brand guidelines
- Ensure all articles are SEO friendly
- Craft catchy, clever, and click-worthy headlines (but not clickbait!) and social posts
- Post articles to relevant social networks
Skills
- Strong command of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and general article flow
- AP Style knowledge
- WordPress knowledge
- Tech/internet savvy
- Firm understanding of and ability to craft winning headlines
- General marketing knowledge
- Strong sense of design
- Knowledge of major social networks, social media etiquette, and best practices
- Strong writing skills
- Ability to spot stories and turn articles around at a moment’s notice, if necessary
- Ability to edit articles quickly and format for publishing
Requirements
- Laptop
- Bachelors degree or proven track record of relevant experience writing and editing long and short form such as headlines and social media posts
- Ability to work in our office 10-20 hours per week
