Seafood lovers can soon add another spot to their rotating list of “places to eat at” in Tucson. Angry Crab Shack is in the process of taking over the building at 5205 E. Broadway Blvd.
Tucson currently has one other Angry Crab Shack located at 1365 W. Grant Rd, which opened in September 2017 and reopened in January 2020 under new ownership.
The same franchise owners, Matthew Prentice and Josh Arnold, who started with Angry Crab Shack back in 2015 as servers, are now gearing up to open the new Broadway location sometime during the earlier part of February.
The building used to be the home of On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina.
For those that haven’t taken the plunge and scoped out the location on Grant Road or any of the other locations in Arizona, Angry Crab’s service style is what many are hoping for.
Certain menu items include seafood and sauces served in a plastic bag — perfect for those who enjoy eating with their hands. Plus, dumpin’ that sucker onto the paper-lined table is perhaps just as fun as eating what’s inside. Don’t worry about making too much of a mess on your clothing, though, because bibs are handed out, too.
You’re also able to choose the type of seafood, sauce, and spice level. Be careful because some of these spices are hotter than the asphalt on a bright and shiny, summer afternoon.
Angry Crab Shack got its start in 2013 in Mesa, Arizona when the former NFL player Ron Lou wanted to create something a little more unique — not “just another wing, burger, or pizza place.”
The restaurant now has multiple Arizona locations and is evolving into a national franchise brand. They’re aiming to open up several more locations across the country by 2023.
