The Kava Den, which is The Kava Bar’s second location, officially opened its doors at 67 E. Pennington St. on Monday, February 13.

At the moment, the new spot, which is next to Urban Fresh and Raptor Canyon Cafe, is open from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. on Sunday – Thursday and 11 a.m. – 1 a.m. on Friday – Saturday. Plus, there is a big grand opening event happening on Thursday, February 23 (stay tuned for more details on that as we creep closer to the date).
If you’ve yet to try kava, the roots are ground into a pulp and added to cold water. This then results in a thick brew. Over time, it’s been compared to the social equivalent of having glasses of wine in France.
Here in Tucson, you can get it a few different ways at the Kava Den and Kava Bar. Popular options include their non-alcoholic “kocktails” or in the traditional manner — poured into a bowl that’s best handled with two hands.
The first location, The Kava Bar, can be found at 4376 E. Speedway Blvd. and has been serving up its unique beverages since late 2019.
The owners of The Kava Bar, Whitney and Kevin Marx, met in Asheville, North Carolina — where they discovered their love for Kava. Whitney was born and raised in Tucson and was running a restaurant in Asheville before moving back to Tucson and opening up The Kava Bar.
