Maynards to Host its Grand Reopening With a New Menu

June 10, 2023
By Tucson Foodie

Maynards is undergoing a summer refresh and will reopen on Thursday, June 15. Located at 400 N. Toole Ave. next to the historic train depot in Downtown Tucson, the restaurant and recently reopened market are now under the expert guidance of native Tucsonan, chef Nick Creamer and his talented culinary team.

Meet the Team

Moving away from the traditional head chef model, chef Creamer will work with a “culinary collective” group of top chefs and the unique talents and perspectives they each bring to the table. Chef Creamer’s extensive background includes specialties in classic French, Sonoran, and American cuisine, as well as a variety of regional styles.

Alongside him in the collective are chef Wyatt Carizzosa, a gastronomic science expert who works with the chemistry of each dish to enhance its subtle flavors; chef Efrain Vasquez, a no-nonsense East Coaster who puts his heart and soul into every plate with results that must be tasted to be believed, and chef Emily Stengel, a pastry chef with a passion and joy for sweets that you can literally taste in her dessert creations.

New Summer Treats

Maynards menu will feature upscale comfort food made with the highest quality ingredients like the Forbes Meat Company Ribeye, with Potatoes gratin, Grilled Green beans, Chimichurri Compound Butter; the Mezcal, Lime, and Chili Marinated Sea Bass with Fingerling Potatoes, Sautéed Garlic Kale and a Tepache Glaze and dessert creations like Thai Tea Strawberry Shortcake.

Guests can expect a special experience as they dine in Maynards stylish and comfortable dining room with views of the herb garden, the patio, and the trains passing by. Dining is also available on the patio.

“Good food is an important part of life,” said Rebecca Hanley, Hotel Congress proprietor. “We look forward to sharing this wonderful new menu and kitchen concept with Tucson.”

Grand Reopening Reception

Reservations are now available for the opening reception on Thursday, June 15 beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Dinner guests will receive a complimentary glass of either Maynards’ local Sonoran wines or a local draft beer. Space is limited so make your reservation sooner than later.

About Maynards Market & Kitchen

The Market is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. The Kitchen restaurant is open Tuesday – Sunday from 4 – 9 p.m., with Happy Hour from 4 – 7 p.m. Maynards serves a menu of upscale comfort food from its special location at the heart of Tucson. And features a premium wine list, creative cocktails, and more. Patio dining and a private room are available for larger parties or corporate events.

The Depot was built in 1907 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Maynards has been operated since 2008 by Richard and Shana Oseran of Hotel Congress — also on the National Register of Historic Places and is now under the direction of their daughter, Rebecca Hanley.

Maynards was named as an homage to Maynard Flood, a Southern Pacific Railroad engineer, and local artist Maynard Dixon, an acclaimed painter of the American West who painted four murals for the original depot.

Maynards is located at 400 N. Toole Ave. For more information, visit hotelcongress.com or call (520) 545-0577.
