According to Felipe Garcia, President and CEO of Visit Tucson, “People travel here just for the food. Our close proximity to the border, shared history, and cultural ties have forged authentic Mexican food in Tucson.” This culinary legacy is the cornerstone of Tucson’s unique gastronomic identity.

Tucson achieved the prestigious title of the first UNESCO City of Gastronomy in the United States in 2015, joining renowned culinary destinations worldwide. This designation celebrates the region’s unique agricultural legacy and the commitment of chefs, mixologists, and bakers to uphold local, heritage ingredients and traditional culinary techniques.

“America’s Best Mexican Food” delves even deeper into Tucson’s rich heritage and history, which has proven to be truly inseparable from that of Mexico.

Coming this winter, the campaign will also give locals and visitors an added excuse to explore the city’s diverse restaurant scene via a new online passport. The passport will guide food enthusiasts on some tasty adventures through town while earning rewards and prizes such as t-shirts and stickers at participating eateries.
