The numbers are in and it was quite a successful National Pita Day for Pita Jungle.

Back in March, the restaurant held an all-day promotion and raised $2,500 for the Arizona nonprofit Waste Not, whose mission is creating sustainable food systems that help people and the planet flourish.

“This partnership with Pita Jungle means a lot not only to us, but the community we serve,” said Rosa Hernandez, Communications and Engagement Manager at Waste Not. “This donation will keep good food out of the landfill and instead, put it into the hands of our neighbors who need it most.”

This year, during the all-day event on National Pita Day (March 29), the regional Mediterranean restaurant donated $1 for every pita sandwich sold at participating locations to the nonprofit. The donations they’ve gathered will contribute to Waste Not’s work of connecting tens of thousands of Arizonans with quality food that would have otherwise gone to waste.

“It’s partners like Pita Jungle who support our mission of eliminating food waste and hunger, that allows us to do what we do,” Hernandez added.

The team of professional drivers and food rescue volunteers at Waste Not collect fresh food from local food businesses such as catering companies, resorts, and event venues, and deliver that food same day to nonprofits that provide critical community services, such as housing and employment assistance.
