Grand Opening for Daiso — the Japanese Discount Store’s First Tucson Location

August 26, 2024
By Matt Sterner

Daiso is hosting its Grand Opening on Saturday, August 31, bringing its unique Japanese-inspired snacks, household items, beauty supplies, gifts, and more to 6884 E. Sunrise Dr. #150.

During the Grand Opening weekend, Daiso will be giving the first 100 customers an exclusive goodie bag (must spend a minimum of $30, which doesn’t seem to be hard to do being that there are so many unique items in the store).

Doors open at 9 a.m. on Saturday and then at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

The space at the Ventana Village Shopping Center in the Foothills coincidentally used to house a Tuesday Morning — a national store that sold similar items. The space is right next to Inca’s Peruvian Cuisine, Blue Ice Gelato, the recently opened Banhdicted, and Tuk Tuk Thai.

“We are thrilled to open our store at Ventana Village,” said Jack Williams, Chief Retail Operations Officer for Daiso USA. “This achievement reflects the dedication and support of our customers who have embraced Daiso’s unique concept and diverse product range. We are excited to provide an exceptional shopping experience to the vibrant Tucson community and look forward to serving our customers with the utmost care and dedication.”

The new 9,927-square-foot Daiso store at Ventana Village sells Japanese-inspired home decor, stationery, food, and more.

“Arizona-based Daiso customers have shown us through our online business and social media their desire for us to have more stores within the state, influencing our immediate growth strategy in this region,” said John Clarke, Chief Development Officer for Daiso USA. “We currently operate 142 units in eight states with more states opening in 2024.”

As previously mentioned, Daiso offers several food and snack items on its shelves.

Popular items found at other stores in the past include Kracie Popin’ Cookin’ Ramen, Pizza Pretz (biscuits made from the same company that makes Pocky), and Glico Caplico Mini — a candy treat that tastes like an ice cream cone.

The snacks in stores rotate, giving you reasons to stop by often.

Daiso was founded as a 100 yen store — it translates to about 75 cents — or the equivalent of a dollar store, but its U.S. locations sell items with a range of prices. The first U.S. store opened in 2005 and perhaps you’ve already shopped at one up north in Phoenix, Mesa, Glendale, or Chandler.

The new store will be open from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. on Monday – Saturday and 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Daiso is located at 6884 E. Sunrise Dr. #150. For more information, visit daisous.com.
