Wee-ooo, wee-ooo, wee-ooo! Wing alert, wing alert!
Happy Wing Wednesday and welcome to a monthly article showcasing the delicious wings I eat in Tucson. For this first installment of “Wing Wednesday”, let’s explore the wings I ate in August.
As the weather begins to cool off, some of us are gearing up for wedding season. So, I found something old, something new, nothing borrowed, and a side of bleu cheese.
Buffalo Bell is a classic spot synonymous with Tucson wings. This south side favorite has been around for decades. There are no frills to this hole in the wall, producing your standard fried chicken wings with the usual sauces and rubs. I opted for their medium buffalo wings, and it’s Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo Sauce — any wing-lover knows this sauce. Swing through the drive-thru or enjoy the ambiance in the eclectic indoor dining room.

Tandem is a new spot that specializes in classic American eats. The comfortable dining area is a great place to grub on some awesome food. Come on Wednesdays for their Wings, Wine, and Whiskey special: $15 wings, $2 off all whiskey, $2 off glasses of wine, and 20% off all bottles of wine. What’s not to like?
They only do wings on Wednesday, too. I got half of their buffalo, and the other half garlic parmesan wings, both sauces are homemade and extremely flavorful and delicious. Shaved parmesan and not the shake is a classy touch. The meat itself is tender and juicy and worthy of a return visit on future Wednesdays.

I was very impressed picking up wings from this small but big flavor spot. When I walked in, I immediately noticed how clean the place was, and I loved that they had a window looking into the kitchen where I could see the owner finishing up my to-go order. Full transparency shows me the pride they take in their food.
After chatting with the owner, I found out her brother runs Wings on Fire in Vail. This is like the royal family of chicken wings! I got their classic buffalo and garlic parmesan flavors, all made in-house. These wings were hard to put down. I could easily see myself eating 20-plus wings, and on Wednesdays, you can get them for just 99 cents each. Even my friends told me their flavors were some of the best they have ever had.
