I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve officially joined the board of the nonprofit Tucson City of Gastronomy (TCOG). This organization plays a vital role in highlighting and preserving Tucson’s unique culinary heritage, and I’m honored to be part of a team that champions our region’s designation as the USA’s first UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.
Under the leadership of Jonathan Mabry and the board, TCOG has accomplished a lot—from hosting international chef exchanges to organizing events like the Pueblos del Maiz Festival, which last year generated over $1 million in economic impact. Their certification programs, educational initiatives, and community-focused projects have been pivotal in shaping Tucson’s food scene.
I’m particularly excited to dive into my role on the Food Justice and Sustainability Committee. These issues are close to my heart, and I’m eager to find ways to support initiatives that ensure our food systems are equitable, sustainable, and reflective of the rich cultural tapestry that makes Tucson so special.
I’d love to hear from you! As someone who cares deeply about Tucson’s food community, I want to know:
Drop a comment on Instagram or Facebook or send me an email at shane@tucsonfoodie.com and let’s start a conversation about how we can continue to grow Tucson’s reputation as a global food destination while supporting the people and traditions that make it so unique.
Together, we can ensure that Tucson’s designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy is not just a badge of honor but a driver of lasting impact for our community.
Let’s dig in! 🌵🌮
