Monday Munchies is supported by Botanica.
While Tucson’s munchies culture appreciates a drive-thru taco shop, one particular location by the airport closed and turned into a local restaurant: Flaps and Racks.
The restaurant gets its names from wings (flaps) and ribs (racks). The Flores brothers (Jeffrey and Miguel) wanted to open a wing restaurant, but added some pizzazz with ribs, like Jeffrey loved cooking for his family gatherings.
While the menu offers a variety of other dishes such as burgers and salads, the wings, ribs, and pork are what let you choose from the variety of sauces:
We haven’t tried all the flavors yet, but the citrus chipotle wings were a hit with their smoky sweet spice and fresh lime zest. The al pastor sauce smothered our pork belly with chunks of sweet grilled pineapple.
As a side, the flyin’ corn was essentially their take on elote with a creamy layer of cheese and chili powder. Before you start your meal, grab plenty of napkins.
Flaps and Racks is located at 3253 E. Valencia Rd. For more information, visit flapsandracks.com.
