Monday Munchies: Double Dog Deal from 313 Detroit-Style Pizza & Coneys

Monday Munchies is supported by Botanica.

Sometimes the munchies call for something simple, saucy, and nostalgic. That’s where 313 Detroit-Style Pizza & Coneys comes in. The takeout-only spot from Renee’s Restaurant serves up Detroit Coney dogs that taste straight out of the Motor City.

Owners Renee and Steve Kreager wanted to share the flavors of their hometown with Tucson. After years of running Renee’s, they decided to launch 313 Detroit-Style Pizza & Coneys as a tribute to Detroit’s street food staples.

Meet the Double Dog Deal

True to Detroit tradition, the Double Dog Deal features grilled all-beef hot dogs topped with meat chili, yellow mustard, and chopped white onions. The chili itself packs a complex spice blend that includes clove, paprika, cinnamon, turmeric, cumin, and chili powder. The result is a fragrant, slightly sweet heat that pairs beautifully with the salty snap of the dog.

Each Coney sits on a steamed bun from Alejandro’s Tortilla Factory, perfectly soft and warm. The dogs come from Chicago’s Vienna Beef, and the chili uses beef from Vera Earl Ranch, a local supplier the Kreagers already trust for their lasagna and meatballs at Renee’s.

Everything about this dish screams attention to detail, even if it’s designed for eating in the car.

Tucson’s Take on a Midwest Classic

Tucson already loves its Sonoran dogs, so a Detroit-style Coney might seem like an outsider. But one bite proves it belongs. The chili clings tightly to the beef dog, offering a silky texture instead of a chunky sauce. The hit of yellow mustard cuts through the richness, while the diced onions add that sharp crunch every perfect bite needs.

It’s a taste of Detroit comfort: equal parts messy, savory, and deeply satisfying. The $12 Double Dog Deal makes it easy to grab lunch without breaking the bank, perfect for midday munchies or an easy take-home dinner.
