Local independent bookstore and coffee bar Stacks Book Club announced plans to open a second location at 2920 E. Broadway Blvd. in early 2026. Founders Crispin and Lizzy Jeffrey-Franco said the flagship will complement their successful Oro Valley store.

Building on success

The couple has run the original Stacks in Oro Valley for two years. Now, they aim to scale their concept with a larger, more central space.

The new store will feature curated book selections, community book clubs, and signature craft coffee drinks. It will also host large-scale author events and free small-group gatherings.

Historic site reimagined

The midtown location sits in the Sunshine Mile’s Mid-Century District, sharing parking with Broadway Village. It occupies the former Austin’s Ice Cream shop, which first opened in 1959.

Stacks Book Club leaders said they want to honor the area’s legacy while creating a hub for Tucson readers.

Serving all of Tucson

The store’s location will connect readers from Sam Hughes, the University of Arizona, Tucson’s east side, and southern neighborhoods. The Oro Valley site will continue to serve the northwest side.

“Our Oro Valley location isn’t going anywhere,” said the press release from Stacks. “You won’t see a change there. What we’re developing in midtown is going to complement what we’ve already built in Oro Valley — it will give us the opportunity to more regularly serve people from all across Tucson, host larger events, attract bigger authors, and scale our book buying and craft coffee business to allow for some exciting upgrades.”

Mission-driven values

The founders emphasized their commitment to independent bookstores as cultural anchors. They said Stacks will advocate for small businesses, public libraries, and inclusive literary dialogue.

“Independent bookstores engage readers of all ages and backgrounds,” the press release said. “We’re excited to expand our impact with this new, more central location. We see ourselves as being a complementary addition to the ecosystem of the other wonderful independent bookstores in the midtown area, and we hope to continue to use our platform to motivate more of Tucson to shop indie.”
