Kingfisher Bar & Grill will open its doors from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 2 to feed furloughed federal employees and their families. The restaurant expects to serve about 250 to 300 free meals on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Food is not only one of the great equalizers of humanity, but also a human right,” Kingfisher Bar & Grill owner-chef Jacki Kuder said in their Instagram post.

Staff and partners step up to help

Kingfisher employees are donating their time, while local food suppliers like Shamrock Foods, Peddler’s Son, and Greco and Sons have contributed ingredients and supplies. The event highlights Tucson’s strong sense of community and support for neighbors in need.

“Tucson is a tight-knit community, and as a locally owned business, it is important to us to support all of our community members when possible,” Kuder said.

Continuing support through the shutdown

Kingfisher plans to continue offering Sunday meals for as long as the federal government shutdown lasts. Future events depend on continued donations and volunteers. Those interested in helping can contact Jacki at jacki@kingfishertucson.com.

Kingfisher is located at 2564 E. Grant Rd. For more information, visit kingfishertucson.com.
