The beauty of dipping your taco in a broth.

“Taco Tuesday in Tucson” is a column where we explore the unique tacos stands throughout Tucson… on Tuesdays.

Gather ’round, friends, as I share a story about the beauty of dipping tacos.

Would you typically dip your taco into salsa? No. You’d normally just put the salsa on top. But broths — you definitely need to dip your taco into broths. If you spoon broth onto a taco, it will just spill out.

At Ensenada Street Food, order a few Rojitos with the dipping broth. Essentially, they’re birria tacos served with a cup of birria broth.

Once your tantalizing plate of tacos arrives, top them with your salsa of choice. Next, squirt some lemon into the cup and dip to your heart’s content.

It will be messy. You will need several napkins. And you will be happy.

Think of it as the taco version of the French dip. But instead of bread, you have a handmade corn tortilla. And instead of roast beef, you have succulent shreds of braised beef with a complex Mexican chile flavor profile.

The video above shows my pathetic attempt at narrating my taco dip in a Michael Winslow-inspired manner. This taco is best enjoyed with a fun attitude. Just don’t attempt to eat it while wearing a Colonel Sanders white suit.

Ensenada Street Food, located at 1602 S. Park Ave., is open from 12:30 – 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Keep up with Ensenada Street Food on Instagram.
