“Taco Tuesday in Tucson” is a column where we explore the unique tacos stands throughout Tucson… on Tuesdays.
When you’re thinking of somewhere to eat a taco on Taco Tuesday, you’re probably not wondering which Italian spots in town are dishing ’em out, right?
However, there’s always dessert.
The new restaurant concept from the minds of local chefs Mat Cable and Devon Sanner is serving up a Taconnoli dessert that’s sweet and crispy enough to hang with the rest of the tacos in town.
The Taconnoli is made of pistachio, orange zest, ricotta, and creamy mascarpone that’s filled inside crispy shells flavored with Marsala and a touch of cinnamon — something a culinary “funcle” would enjoy serving up at any type of gathering.
Also, if you really want to make the most out of your visit to Zio Peppe, order the El Rustico Birria pizza. It packs a punch of flavor and includes chef Juan Almanza’s popular beef birria of El Rustico in the form of a pizza. The mozzarella, onion, cilantro, and consommé make it all complete.
Be sure to dip each slice before chompin’ down.
Zio Peppe is located at 6502 E. Tanque Verde Rd. For information on the location, hours, full menu, and more, visit ziopeppeaz.com.
