Divine Bovine now making tater tots in house from scratch

What kind of a country would we live in with out good ol’ Ore-Ida Tater Tots? If you’ve ever had a tater tot, most likely it was an Ore-Ida. After all, they own the trademark. Now, popular eastside gourmet burger joint Divine Bovine is making them in house.

As is the case with most mass-produced foods, Ore-Ida tater tots contain some ingredients that you probably wouldn’t ingest on their own. Divine Bovine owner Ben Rine decided he’d just make them on his own from scratch.

“Life is too short to eat ordinary food,” said Rine. “I love making something different and I want people to fall in love with the food at my restaurant.”

Made to order, Divine Bovine tater-tots, which are a little like fried mashed potato bites, are made from Pure Gold potatoes that get shredded in house, parboiled, mixed with a little flour, water, cheese, green onion, and seasoning before getting shaped and dropped into the fryer for a little ball of divinity. Crisp on the outside, and soft on the inside, the tots are a one-of-a-kind feature, unavailable anywhere else in town.

In case you’re wondering if they’re actually made to order, well – they have to be. There’s isn’t even a freezer in the building.

Tots are served 15 per order for $4.99. A dipping sauce is not included, however sauces in the restaurant are free. And like the tater tots, all sauces are house made, even the ranch (not from a packet). Sauce options include Rine’s favorite, Honey Balsamic Mayo, Sweet Chili, Divine Sauce, which is DB’s version of a fry sauce, and ranch, Herbed Mayo, Panang Curry, and Horseradish Cream. Ketchup is also available, but it’s not made in house. There’s also a few sauces that are available for purchase, like Green Chili Cheese Sauce, Roasted Beef Gravy, and Cheddar Cheese Sauce.

Divine Bovine is first and foremost a burger joint – a phenomenal one at that – but they also offer a twist on a lot of different items. For example, they feature Rocky Mountain Soda, a craft soda that’s not available anywhere else in town. Flavors include Colorado Cola, Breckenridge Blackberry, Peaches & Cream, Orange Cream, Prickly Pear, and Root Beer. There’s also a selection of ultra-delicious sides and milkshakes

Lastly, Rine features around 90 craft beers at Divine Bovine. So whether you’re in the mood for a food coma-inducing nap, or just a hearty meal with a beer, you’ll want to give them a try.

@Jundynasty has served Sichuan dishes on Grant Road for 13 years.🌶️

General manager Jacob Yeung credits one idea above all: “We’ve grown since then, but the key has always been consistency.”

Stop in for Flaming Chili Oil, Walnut Shrimp, chow fun, or sautéed green beans finished with Sichuan peppercorns. Vegetarian and vegan options are available.

Customers can stop in between now and Saturday for one last meal. The team plans to sell down its inventory, though it hopes to have favorite dishes available. Regular hours remain 9am-3pm through the final day.

“Running this kitchen has been a labor of love, but the numbers just aren’t adding up anymore, and as parents, we have to make the hard choice to step back and take care of what matters most at home.”
