Eating on the Cheap: build-your-own Eritrean combo at Queen Sheba

Eating on the Cheap: build-your-own Eritrean combo at Queen Sheba

Dec 2, 20191 min read

When it comes to eating a variety of food for a reasonable price, you don’t need a buffet. Try Eritrean cuisine.

Like the cuisine from Eritrea’s neighbor Ethiopia, Eritrean cuisine prominently features injera, a spongy crepe-like sourdough-risen flatbread. Use your hands to tear the injera into taco-size pieces to scoop up the stews.

At Queen Sheba Eritrean Cuisine, build your own combo with a $1 injera platter and $1.95 scoops of the following dishes:

Build-Your-Own-Combo Scoop Options
  • Beef – cubed beef, spicy tomato sauce, red berbere, onion, garlic, butter, olive oil
  • Spicy Beef
  • Lamb – lamb, red berbere, onion, tomato sauce, butter, olive oil, butter, garlic
  • Boneless Chicken – chicken, spicy tomato sauce, berbere, onion, garlic, butter, olive oil
  • Green Beans
  • Spinach – spinach, onion, tomato sauce, jalapeño, olive oil
  • Shero – mild chickpea flour, onions, fresh tomato, red pepper, olive oil, green & red peppers, garlic
  • Alicha – yellow split pea, onion, fresh tomato, green pepper, garlic, olive oil

For the best variety of textures, choose one meat with three of the veggie options.

During lunch, the menu also features a handful of affordable rice dishes, salads, and Eritrean spaghetti.

Cafe Francais, the French bakery known for its scratch-made croissants and kouign-amann, is closing for good. Owners Noelle and Daniel Martinez announced the closure on Instagram Wednesday afternoon, ending a seven-year run that began on Tucson’s east side.

“Thank you, Tucson, for one hell of a crazy, amazing, and sometimes terrible 7-year ride. We’ve truly loved it all, the good, the bad, and the difficult.”
