Exo Bar’s Grand Opening Party Celebrates New Expansion, Hours & Menu

Exo Bar’s Grand Opening Party Celebrates New Expansion, Hours & Menu

Nov 19, 20182 min read

Exo Roast Co. is celebrating the grand opening of its newest addition, Exo Bar, and what its dinner menu has to offer from 5 – 11 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20.

There are a couple of important things to point out about Exo Bar. For one, Exo Roast Co. will still be open from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Exo Bar will open just in time for Happy Hour from 5 – 10 p.m.

The back space of the bar will be closed from 4 – 5 p.m. daily for required cleanup.

Another thing is that — with its new dinner menu — Exo Bar is striving to become the go-to food destination for those enjoying a drink at its next-door neighbor, Tap & Bottle (credit card only for deliveries).

The food menu was crafted by Timothy Johnson of Curly Wolf Kombucha, and to complement that, a winter cocktail lineup will be revealed as well.

After the grand opening party, the regular hours for Exo Bar will be from 5 – 10 p.m. from Tuesday – Sunday.

Exo Bar Dinner Menu

  • Bar Snacks ($7) – choose 4 of the following:
    • Spanish-style peanuts with chile and lime
    • Toasted sweet and spicy pepitas with popped amaranth
    • Oranges with gusano salt
    • Cotija cheese
    • Tepary bean hummus
    • Warm Barrio Bread
    • Spanish chorizo
    • Candied cacao nibs
  • Flatbread of the Week ($8, +$2 for chorizo) – house-made flatbread, roasted seasonal vegetables, Jack cheese
  • Tostada ($8) –  crunchy corn tortilla, Bonita pinto bean puree, pico de gallo, Cotija cheese, served with local greens, and cilantro sprouts
  • Savory Empanadas ($.5.50 vegetable, $6 meat)
    • Oaxacan cheese in house-made empanada brushed with rosemary butter
    • Forbes Meat Company chorizo, potatoes, red, and green bell peppers
  • Street Tacos ($5 each or $9 for two) – braised and seared beef cheek served over house-made nixtamalized, local wheat tortillas with lacto-fermented white onions and ancho-cream reduction, served with local greens and cilantro sprouts
  • Corn Tempura Chicken ($7) – ancho chile and onion marinated chicken covered in a yellow and blue corn tempura batter and fried, served with a cilantro-lime aioli

Being that it’s a party, it’s complete with an evening of events that ought to be a blast.

More about Matt

At a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.

He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.

If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.

After 4pm, @Talegacoffee at 177 N. Church Ave. transforms into @_Velvetcowboy, serving cocktails, tapas, and late-night bar energy. Velvet Cowboy’s grand opening is Oct. 16, with upcoming events including drag brunches, DJs, and live music.🪩

This weekend’s hours are Saturday from 2pm to midnight and Sunday from noon to 10pm. Featured in this video is the Chilte(penis) martini special, made with chiltepin vodka, agua de chiltepin, and pickle juice, available until they sell out.🍸

“Opening this place feels a little surreal. To now have a space where we can bring together coffee, food, art, booze, and all the weird things we love feels like a reflection of how far we’ve come.” —Tyler Melo
