Fox Restaurant Concepts celebrates 20 years in Tucson

Oct 2, 20181 min read

During the month of October, Fox Restaurant Concepts is throwing a celebration to honor their last 20 years introducing new and interesting restaurants to Tucson.

Two decades ago Sam Fox and his team opened the doors to Tucson’s first concept, Wildflower American Cuisine, on the corner of Oracle and Ina Rd. From there, the group’s ever-evolving restaurants blossomed throughout the city.

To celebrate their milestone, Blanco Tacos + Tequila, Culinary Dropout, North Italia, Zinburger, and the initial concept Wildflower will be offering a special promotion every week.

Also, $20,000 will be donated to the community from each of the five restaurants. Where the donation lands is up to you, too.

After dining in any of these restaurants you’ll have an option to submit your vote and give a local charity a chance to win.

Special Promotions

Monday, October 1 – Sunday, October 7
  • Blanco Tacos + Tequila – $5 Prickly Pear Margaritas and $5 Guacamole throughout the entire week
Monday, October 8 – Sunday, October 14
  • Culinary Dropout – $7 Pretzels and Fondue, half-priced local beers, and live music every night
Monday, October 15 – Sunday, October 21
  • North Italia – Three-course meal for $20 per person and optional $20 wine pairings all day
Monday, October 22 – Sunday, October 28
  • Zinburger – Samburger, onion rings, and a root beer float for $12
Tuesday, October 30
  • Wildflower American Cuisine – A special 20th-anniversary dinner with five courses for $55 per person, or $85 per person with wine pairings.

More about Matt

At a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.

He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.

If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.

Tucson’s barbecue options range from food trucks to full-service dining rooms. Some focus on classic Texas-style plates with butcher paper and simple sides. Others experiment with fusion dishes that blend barbecue with Mexican and Southwestern flavors. This variety gives diners plenty of options, whether they want a quick lunch or a sit-down meal.
