Pasco Kitchen closes for renovations; new concept or ownership uncertain

Dec 29, 20171 min read

Main Gate Square restaurant Pasco Kitchen & Lounge recently closed it doors for renovations. However, its days as Pasco are over.

“We knew we were going to have a lot of renovation by the beginning of next year,” said Ramiro Scavo, chef-owner of Pasco and Red’s Smokehouse + Tap Room. “We keep putting a band aid over the floors, but analyzing our business, we know we have to change. Times are changing, the block is changing, Tucson is changing, it’s all for the good. There’s a lot of great competition and great things going on.”

While Scavo has received offers on the lease for Pasco, he still might keep the space. A final decision has not been made yet.

“We have a couple other concepts that we think would do well with the future of Red’s and Tucson food,” Scavo said.

Winter break is slow for them without the university students, so it was the best time for the renovation, Scavo said. At the end of August, Scavo informed employees of the closure so they could transition into the team of sister restaurant Red’s down the street.

Additionally, loyal Pasco customers can still enjoy some favorite items at Red’s. For a limited time, Red’s will serve the Father Kino cocktail, the Pasco Pork Nachos, and the Big Boy Burger.

Although Pasco’s six-year legacy is coming to a close, Scavo has been experimenting at Red’s. “We have some cool equipment we’re building for South American and Brazilian barbecue for Red’s and catering,” Scavo said.

Pasco Kitchen & Lounge is located at 820 E. University Blvd. For more information, visit pascokitchen.com.

Opened in 2023, @kabulcorner is Tucson’s only Afghan restaurant, created to provide jobs, community, and a taste of home for Afghan families who made Tucson their new home.

Today, Sediq Haidari and his family serve traditional Afghan dishes like bolani, mantou, Kabuli palaw, fresh tandoori naan, and house-made chaka, while preserving recipes and traditions rooted in Afghanistan’s rich history.

With its warm hospitality, authentic food, and strong sense of community, Kabul Corner has become a little piece of home in the Sonoran Desert. ❤️

“These dishes are famous not only in Afghanistan, but in neighboring countries like Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Iran, and even parts of China. It sits right between Indian and Arabic food.” Sediq Haidari
