SAACA’s (Tasty) Splash Charity Event on June 21st

Jun 4, 20141 min read

Spend Saturday, June 21st in the lower courtyard of La Encantada, getting down to DJS, sipping fresh cocktails and sampling local food for the Southern Arizona Arts and Culture Alliance’s (SAACA) annual Splash! benefit. These guys throw a great party, complete with live street art demos, fashion shows and decadent desserts and libations. But the best part is that your $25 entry fee goes directly to support arts education programs in local schools. Though, we admit, we’re also pretty excited for tasty spread from twenty local restaurants and culinary artists, including:

  • Blanco
  • Grimaldi’s Pizza
  • NORTH Italia
  • Boca
  • Prep & Pastry
  • Bunz in the Oven Bakery
  • Mama’s Hawaiian BBQ
  • Govinda’s Natural Foods
  • Gourmet Girls Gluten-Free Bakery
  • Acacia
  • Tazzina di Gelato
  • Shlomo & Vito’s New York Delicatessen
  • Saffron
  • Saint House Rum Bar
  • GAP Bistro
  • Union

Plus beer from Peroni, Crispin, Blue Moon and J. Leinenkugel Brewing Co.

As a benefit guest, you’re also invited to participate in the silent auction (travel packages, jewelry, fine art, performing arts tickets, gift cards to Lulu Lemon, Aveda, and more) benefitting SAACA’s Therapeutic Art Program, which provides integrative healing to veterans, trauma recovery patients, seniors, and individuals dealing with physical limitations.

We’ll be there, too, tracking all the glorious food on Instagram, so come say hi! For tickets and more benefit info visit sacca.org.

@Jundynasty has served Sichuan dishes on Grant Road for 13 years.🌶️

General manager Jacob Yeung credits one idea above all: “We’ve grown since then, but the key has always been consistency.”

Stop in for Flaming Chili Oil, Walnut Shrimp, chow fun, or sautéed green beans finished with Sichuan peppercorns. Vegetarian and vegan options are available.

@Lovinspoonfulstucson is closing after more than 20 years in Tucson. Its final day of service runs on Saturday, Oct. 24.

Customers can stop in between now and Saturday for one last meal. The team plans to sell down its inventory, though it hopes to have favorite dishes available. Regular hours remain 9am-3pm through the final day.

“Running this kitchen has been a labor of love, but the numbers just aren’t adding up anymore, and as parents, we have to make the hard choice to step back and take care of what matters most at home.”

A little love for the chefs who make Tucson’s food scene so special. These are just some of the many talented chefs who make our city what it is.
