Snooze, an A.M. Eatery to open its new location on Oracle Road

Snooze, an A.M. Eatery to open its new location on Oracle Road

Oct 13, 20223 min read

Since opening its first Tucson location in 2020, the Colorado-based restaurant, Snooze, an A.M. Eatery, has been on a steady roll in midtown. Now, Snooze is ready to officially open its second location at 7315 N. Oracle Rd. #161 on Wednesday, October 19.

However, they’ll be flippin’ the pancakes earlier than that during the restaurant’s three-day soft opening extravaganza.

“Friday is our ‘friends and family day’ and on Saturday, from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m., we’ll have the Interfaith Community Services & Food Bank here,” said Adam Hede, manager of the new Oracle location. “Then, Integrative Touch is here on Sunday from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. We have RSVPs sent out but we’re also going to be taking some walk-ins. Our whole goal is to learn and to also show the community the partnership that we’ve created. We want to talk about this new partnership with these non-profits and get their name out there as well.”

Here in Tucson, along with other cities and states, Snooze focuses on bettering the community, whether it be following certain sustainability guidelines or donating a percentage of sales back to non-profits.

There have been a few events and opportunities in the last couple of years at the midtown location and, as mentioned earlier, the north side spot is getting the ball rolling early.

“Interfaith Community Services is more than just a food bank, though they really help out a lot with single mothers and senior citizens who are in need of all kinds of things,” said Hede. “And then there’s Integrative Touch, which is a non-profit that supports local families whose children have any type of special health or medical need.”

“So, during this whole weekend — during our soft opening — 100% of the money that is donated goes to them, and Snooze is donating all of our food, service, and the space for them to come and bring out their friends. For each restaurant, we are able to give an average of about $3,600 a year to local communities — local organizations of all kinds — and we want to volunteer as much as we can and be involved as well.”

For those living on the north side of town, Marana, and Oro Valley, it’ll be nice to have another brunch option near the corner of Ina and Oracle Road. When scouting locations, the folks at Snooze saw a lot of potential in that neck of the woods.

“We like to look around and see new markets and areas in the community,” said Hede. “We want to be somewhere that’s visible and somewhere we know the community would support Snooze as well us supporting that community.”

If you’ve been to the midtown location, the menu is the same — stacks of craft pancakes, Mexican-inspired dishes like breakfast tacos and a burrito, and an eggs benedict that usually satisfies the pickiest of eaters. Although, being that we’re in the midst of an all-out pumpkin spice takeover, Snooze has a few autumn-themed bites running amok.

“We have our standard menu but we do a seasonal one,” said Hede. “Right now, it’s the fall menu with some amazing Pumpkin Pecan Pancakes, a Pumpkin Martini, and Pumpkin Spice Bacon.”

Again, the grand opening is on Wednesday, October 19 but Snooze is hosting three days of soft openings. All proceeds during those days will go to select non-profits and each day is RSVP only.

“Snooze is all about maintaining culture and we really do believe in our people,” said Hede. “It’s great to see that and everyone here is unique. You know, we’re not just a cookie-cutter restaurant, we’re finding unique spaces and creating a restaurant out of that space. Each Snooze is its own character even though we’re all one big family.

Snooze, an A.M. Eatery is located at 7315 N. Oracle Rd. #161 and the midtown spot is located at 2500 E. Grant Rd. #182. For more information, visit snoozeeatery.com.

More about Matt

At a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.

He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.

If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
