At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26, the team behind Blax Friday is bringing back Soul Food Wednesdays to downtown Tucson.
Over the years, the local event has popped up in different spots around town, like the MSA Annex and Hot Congress, and this time they’re setting up on Playground’s rooftop, at 278 E. Congress St.
Blax Friday, a community organization that got its start in the summer of 2020, shines a light on Black-owned businesses throughout Arizona. Now in its fifth year, they’re celebrating big by hosting its largest lineup of food vendors yet at this month’s Soul Food Wednesday.

More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
